MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany baseball team made school history this past Sunday by winning their first ever Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championship under Head Coach Ryan Kragh who is in his 14th season at the helm for the Vikings. BLC shares the UMAC title with the College of St. Scholastica and is now looking forward to making a run in the postseason tournament.
The Vikings will travel to Duluth as the second seed and will play the Eagles of Northwestern who is the third seed. The Vikings and Eagles split during the regular season in their double-header back on April 12. The games were played at the University of Northwestern and the Eagles took game one 7-6 with the Vikings winning game two 9-5.
The Vikings are the top offensive team in the UMAC, leading the conference in batting average (.389), runs (205), hits (223), doubles (48), home runs (24), and RBIs (177). The Vikings also have the second best pitching staff with a combined 4.12 ERA.
Northwestern will enter the tournament as a solid offensive team, ranking fourth in batting average, fourth in runs scored, fourth in hits, third in home runs, and fourth in RBIs. The Eagles pitching staff has the third lowest ERA at 4.22.
