Duluth, MN. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team beat the Saint Scholastica Saints 80-74 to extend their win streak to ten games. The win puts the Vikings record at 13-5 overall and their UMAC record at 8-1.
The first half would begin in a seesaw motion; the Vikings would go down and then tie the game, then go down again, then tie the game again. At the two minute mark in the half, the Vikings had tied the game five times and taken the lead three times. Then, the Saints would go on a 10-0 run and end the first half with a 47-37 lead. The Saints were led by a big first half from Collin Anderson who scored 28 points.
The Saints extended their lead to 12 points early in the second half, but after ten minutes of play the Vikings had tied the game and captured the momentum. After a few more minutes of play, the Vikings would not let go of their lead. In the last five minutes, Jared Milinkovich would score seven points and shoot 2-2 from the field and 3-4 on free throws. The Vikings were able to come back from a 10 point deficit, and hold on to an 80-74 victory.
The Vikings were able to control the pace of the game, and that would help lead them to the victory. The Vikings would hold a 12-9 advantage in second chance points, 8-2 in fast break points, and 9-8 in total assists.
The Vikings were led by Jared Milinkovich with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Cire Mayfield would score 17 points, and Jarred Merchant would record a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
