Vikings defeat Jills 78-51

MANKATO, MN.  – The Vikings women's basketball team won their sixth game in a row by defeating the Northland College Lumberjills on Saturday afternoon. The win puts the Vikings overall record at 16-4 and their UMAC record at 10-1.
 
The first half of play saw a lot of different Vikings get minutes. Bethany Lutheran held a 14-13 lead after the first quarter. Natasha Young got the Vikings started right away with a layup and then followed up with a steal. Taylor Bolduan got some early minutes for the Vikings and she made the most of her opportunity, going 3-5 from the three-point line including a buzzer-beater to end the second quarter. Alli Carlson gave the Vikings six points off the bench and helped the Vikings take a 28-24 lead into the locker room.
 
The Vikings came out strong in the third quarter with big contributions from Abby Olson, Haley Sandin, and Emily Skrien. In just ten minutes, the Vikings extended their four point halftime lead to 23 points. The Vikings maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter and won the game easily by a score of 78-51.
 
Hanna Geistfeld led all scorers with 14 points, going 7-7 from the field. Abby Olson and Haley Sandin scored 12 points each and Emily Skrien added 10. The Vikings shot 45.2% from the field as a team and held Northland to 27.7% shooting.
 
Up Next: The Vikings stay in Mankato as they host the University of Northwestern on Wednesday, January 30th at 5:30 PM.
