Mankato, MN. – The Vikings men's basketball team beat the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets 97-84, to win their seventh straight game. The win puts the Vikings record at 10-5 and their UMAC record at 5-1.
The game started out fairly close, but the Vikings were soon able to jump out to a 12-7 lead. However, the Yellowjackets would come back, and halfway through the first half the Vikings were up 24-23. The Vikings then went on a small run and took a 9 point lead. This lead helped the Vikings end the first half up 45-38.
The Vikings came out firing in the second half. Quickly running up to a 54-43 lead. The Vikings would use that to gain a 92-74 lead with just three minutes left in the game. The Yellowjackets tried to level out the score, but the Vikings held them off, winning 97-84.
Trenton Krueger and
Jarred Merchant shared the team scoring high with 18 points each, and 9 rebounds between them.
Cire Mayfield also contributed to the win with 11 points and 8 assists. The Vikings were red hot, shooting 61% from the field.
