Mankato, MN. – The Vikings men's basketball team beat the Crown College Storm 85-82. The win puts the Vikings record at 11-5 and their UMAC record at 6-1. The win also puts the Vikings at the top seed in the UMAC conference.
The game started out close. By the halfway point of the first half, the score had been tied twice, the largest lead was seven points, and the Vikings had a 28-24 lead. The Vikings would then jump out to a 12 point lead. The Storm would go on a 14-4 run after that, and with three minutes left in the first half the Vikings would hold just a 40-38 lead. The half would end with a 50-46 Viking lead.
The second half would stay just as close. The lead would be tied five times, and the largest lead gained would be nine. The Vikings would be leading 83-82 with just three minutes to go. In the final seconds,
Cire Mayfield would hit two free throws to give the Vikings an 85-82 lead. The Storm would have a last second chance to tie up the game, but would miss giving the Vikings the 85-82 victory.
The Vikings were led by
Cire Mayfield with 28 points and 5 assists,
Trenton Krueger with 15 points and 7 rebounds, and
Jared Milinkovich nearly had a double double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
