MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran College men's basketball team (1-1 overall) fell 92-76 to Buena Vista (2-0) Tuesday.
Four Vikings finished in double digits as junior Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the team with his career-high 20 points. Sophomore Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) followed with 16 points, and juniors Jared Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) and Trevin Nelson (Chisago Lakes, Minn.) each had 12.
Milinkovich added a double-double with his team-high 10 rebounds.
The Beavers made the first basket of the night and continued to lead for the duration of the game. BV later led 56-36 at halftime as it made 13 treys in the frame.
BLC was able to whittle the margin to 14 on a layup from Mayfield with 4:19 to play. A Beaver was fouled beyond the arc and made all three free throw attempts to push the margin to 17.
As a team, the Vikings owned the advantage in field goal percentage (.464 vs. .429) and shot an impressive .900 from the free throw line.
Bethany returns to the court Saturday when it travels to face St. Olaf at 3 p.m.
