WINONA, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team fell 96-83 to NCAA Division II opponent Winona State Saturday in an exhibition.
Four Vikings scored in double digits as junior Trevin Nelson (Chisago City, Minn.) led the pack with 21 points. Senior Trenton Krueger (Eagan, Minn.) and junior Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) were next with 15 points, and sophomore Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) had 13 points.
BLC led 32-19 with 6:16 to play in the first half. The Warriors began to chip away at the margin and knotted the game at 43 all on a trey at the buzzer.
The second half was tied eight times which included at 83-83 with 4:50 to play. Winona State began to build a lead on six consecutive free throws to pull ahead for good.
Bethany held the team advantage in field goal percentage (54.4 vs. 45.3), and blocks (5-1).
The Vikings open a three-game road trip next Tuesday at UW-Stout at 5 p.m.
