Bethany Lutheran Wins California Lutheran Tournament Championship

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team (7-5 overall) won the California Lutheran Tournament in the 100-62 win over Rosemont College (3-9) Monday.

For their efforts over the two games, senior Trenton Krueger (Eagan, Minn.) was named to the All-Tournament team and sophomore Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) was named the All-Tournament MVP.

Mayfield led all scorers with 25 points. Three teammates joined him in double digits as sophomore Kaden Vaughn (St. Charles, Minn.) had 15 points, Krueger had 12, and junior Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) finished with 11.

The Vikings opened the first seven minutes of the game on a 21-7 run and never looked back. Bethany later led 50-28 at halftime and pushed the margin to as many as 40 late in the contest.

BLC owned the team advantages in field goal percentage (60.6 – 31.3) and held the Ravens to 13.6 % from beyond the arc. The Vikings also owned the lead in rebounds (46-28), assists (24-10), and blocks (3-0).

This was the fourth time this season Bethany has surpassed the century mark in points. This is the most 100 point games in a single season in school history.

BLC is off from competition until Wednesday, Jan. 8 when it hosts Minnesota-Morris at 5:30 p.m.
