MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team (8-5 overall, 3-1 UMAC) increased its winning streak to three in the 96-86 win over Minnesota-Morris (4-8, 1-3) Wednesday night. This also marked the sixth-straight win in the series for Bethany to even the all-time meetings at 18-18.
The Vikings took the narrow lead (37-36) into the locker room at halftime. The Cougars pulled ahead at 42-40 a minute into the second frame, but Bethany battled back to regain the lead at 50-49 three minutes later. The lead would change hands four more times over the next four minutes and BLC would use a 12-2 run to reclaim the lead for good with 9:19 to play.
Four players finished in double digits as sophomore Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) led all scorers with 27 points. Junior Jared Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) followed with 23, classmate Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had 14 and senior Trenton Krueger (Eagan, Minn.) had a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
BLC held the team advantage in field goal percentage (52.7 vs. 46.6), assists (27-17), blocks (9-2) and steals (10-4).
The Vikings continue their three-game homestand Saturday when they host Northland at 3 p.m.
