OWATONNA, MN – The Bethany Lutheran College women's tennis team played a couple matches against NAIA opponents out of Iowa on Saturday as they took on Morningside College and Northwestern College. The Vikings competed well against both opponents, but couldn't get over the hump, losing 8-1 to Northwestern and 9-0 to Morningside.
The Vikings players saw their singles matches extend to three sets against Northwestern. Audrey Petersen played the 4th spot for the Vikings and battled, but came up short 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Jessalyn Aune-Smith played well at 5th, but lost in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. Emma Carmichael played six singles for the Vikings and lost in a tight match 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.
Petersen and Carmichael teamed up for their first doubles match of the season and it was a success as they defeated their opponent 9-8.
Against Morningside, the Vikings again battled hard, but came up short. Taylor Bolduan took seven games from her opponent, but lost 6-3, 6-4. Emma Carmichael also played tough, taking eight games from her opponent, but lost 6-4, 6-4.
Aune-Smith and Carmichael teamed up for the first time at third doubles and they competed well, but lost 8-5.
Up next: The Vikings play on Friday, February 22nd against Macalester College at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, MN at 8 PM.
