MINNETONKA, MN – The Bethany Lutheran College men's tennis team took on Morningside College (IA) and Northwestern College (IA) on Saturday evening. Both opponents are NAIA schools and compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Vikings earned a split on the night, losing to Morningside 8-1 and defeating Northwestern 5-4.
 
Morningside proved to be an opponent too tough for the Vikings. Carter Dahl and Dalton Werckman hung tough in their #1 doubles match, but ended up losing 8-6. Nico Martinez Biali started to find some traction in the second set of his #4 singles match, but went on to lose 6-0, 7-5. Werckman took six games in #2 singles, but lost 6-3, 6-3. The lone match the Vikings won came by forfeit at the #6 singles spot and David Lee got credit for the win.
 
The Vikings bounced back by defeating Northwestern College 5-4. The Vikings won their top 4 singles matches to get things going. Laine Larson defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-2 at #1 to pick up his second win of the season. Dalton Werckman played #2 and won 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Carter Dahl picked up his second win of the season, defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-3. Nico Martinez Biali won handily at #4, 6-2, 6-2.
 
The Vikings mixed up their doubles teams a bit against the Red Raiders and were able to pick up a win at #1 to seal the team win. Laine Larson and Dalton Werckman played together at the top spot and won 8-7. Dahl and Martinez Biali played #2 and hung tough, but lost 8-6.
 
Up next: The Vikings take on Macalester College on Friday, February 22nd at 8 PM at the Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.
