Morris, MN. – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings softball team beat the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars in both games of their double header, winning the first game 6-2 and the second game 8-3. The wins puts the Vikings win percentage at .632 with a 12-7 record, and a 2-0 record in the UMAC conference.
The first game started out fairly close, with neither team scoring through the first three innings. Then, in the top of the fourth,
Jenna Reynolds would double to left, batting in
Zoe Kinakin. The Cougars would respond by scoring to runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, and tie up the game at two in the fifth. The Vikings would score three more times in the seventh by
Kaylee Mork,
Zoe Kinakin, and
Taylor Kottke, and they'd take the first game 6-2.
The second game started out better for the Vikings, as they scored three runs in the first inning. The Vikings would shut out the Cougars in the bottom of that inning, and then would go on to score four more runs in the second. The Vikings would score once more, and end with an 8-3 lead.
Up next: The Vikings play a double header on April 3rd, with both games coming against the University of Northwestern Eagles. The games will start at 3:30 p.m. in Mankato, MN.
