BLC advances to championship Saturday

DULUTH, MN – The Bethany Lutheran College baseball team picked up their second win of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) tournament by defeating #4 UW-Superior with a score of 4-2. With the win, the Vikings are moving on to championship Saturday and need just one more win to advance to their second straight NCAA Regional.

The Vikings and Yellowjackets were locked in a scoreless ballgame through four innings of play. After holding the Yellowjackets scoreless in the fifth, the Vikings made their move and took the lead. Hunter Pearce scored the first run of the game after a Cody Ulfers single brought him home. The second run came from Ben Boran who scored on a wild pitch to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead. Dallas McBroom pitched another shutout inning in the sixth and the Vikings offense capitalized again with two more runs in the bottom half to take a 4-0 lead. The Yellowjackets threatened momentarily with two runs in the seventh, but Logan Nissen came in for relief and shut them out the rest of the way as the Vikings won 4-2.

Dallas McBroom pitched a great game, going 7.1 innings with four hits, two runs, and two strikeouts. Logan Nissen earned the save and gave up zero hits and zero runs in 1.2 innings of work. Ben Boran led the way offensively, going 3-4 at the dish and Ross Beumer went 2-4.

Up Next: The Vikings will play again tomorrow at 1 PM and await the winner of #3 Northwestern vs. #4 UW-Superior. The Vikings will only need one win tomorrow to advance to the NCAA Regional. If they should lose game one, they will play again at 4 PM.
