Mankato, MN. – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings baseball team beat the North Central Rams in a UMAC conference showcase, sweeping the Rams 22-7 in the first game and 13-3 in the second game. The wins puts the Vikings record at 18-15 and their conference record at 12-2.
The Vikings started out slow in the first game, scoring two runs in the second inning. Then, a grand slam by
Jake LaBerge in the third inning would see the Vikings take a 6-0 lead. The Rams wouldn't score, and the Vikings would continue to pile on to the lead with an astonishing ten runs in the fourth inning. The Vikings would keep their foot on the gas, scoring in the fifth, and then the Rams would try and start a rally, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the score at 19-6. Both teams would score again in the sixth inning, and the Vikings scored one last time in the seventh inning to put the final score at 22-7.
The Ram would put up a little more offensive in the second game, scoring first, but the Vikings would have a quick response, scoring 9 runs in two innings. Bethany continued to pressure the Rams, scoring again in the sixth to go up 13-3, and that's how the game ended after seven innings.
