Vikings, Nielsen Set School Record in Blocks in Win over North Central

MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team (10-5 overall, 5-1 UMAC) and freshman Hunter Nielsen (New Prague, Minn.) set the school record in blocks in the 94-73 win over North Central (3-11, 1-5) Wednesday night.

The Vikings had 13 team blocks which broke the old mark of 10 set against Martin Lutheran on Feb. 23, 2010. Nielsen recorded six by himself which surpassed the previous record of five set by Andy Wills against Minnesota-Morris on Dec. 5, 2008, and Trenton Krueger against Martin Luther on Dec. 12, 2017.

The game remained close in the first half and was tied four times, which included at 24 all with 9:37 to play. The Rams built a four-point lead, but BLC answered with a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 32-28 with 6:38 to go. North Central scored the next four points, but the Vikings answered once more to push the lead to eight with 3:23 remaining.

Bethany later owned the 47-38 advantage at halftime as sophomore Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) scored 17 points in the frame.

Once BLC led 60-50 with 13:20 to play in the second half, it would remain ahead by double digit margin for the duration of the contest.

Mayfield finished with 24 points, and junior Jared Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) joined him in double figures with 13 points. Senior Trenton Krueger (Eagan, Minn.) recorded 15 rebounds as the Vikings moved their winning streak to five.
