ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team (14-2 overall, 7-1 UMAC) tied the school record with its ninth-straight win in the 78-51 victory over Crown (4-11, 1-7) Wednesday. The Vikings previously won nine consecutive games last season (Jan. 5-Feb. 6, 2019). This win was also the 30
th-straight over the Storm in series history.
Additionally, Bethany moved into sole ownership of first place in the UMAC standings with the victory.
The game was knotted three times in the first four minutes of the contest, which included 10-10 with 6:09 to go. BLC compiled a 6-0 run over the next minute to regain the lead for good.
A trey from junior Abby Olson (Montevideo, Minn.) with 1:32 left in the first pushed the advantage into double digits, which would remain for the rest of the night.
Junior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) led all scorers with 20 points and tallied a double double for the second-straight contest with 13 rebounds.
Olson finished with 13 points and sophomore Laura Ellinghuysen (Winona, Minn.) rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points.
Defensively, Bethany held Crown to 16.7% from beyond the arc. The Vikings also owned the team advantages in field goal percentage (45.6 vs. 31.6), rebounds (43-32), assists (21-11), and blocks (3-1).
The Vikings conclude their three-game road trip Saturday against Minnesota-Morris at 4:45 p.m.
