ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team's school-record 13-game winning streak came to a close Wednesday in the 74-61 loss to Northwestern. BLC is now 18-3 overall and 11-2 in UMAC contests, while the Eagles are 15-8, 11-3.
Junior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) led all scorers with 24 points and had a double double with a team-best 13 rebounds. She was the lone Viking in double digits on the night.
The game remained close in the early stages of the contest as the score was tied four times in the first six minutes, which included 13 all with 4:26 to play. The Eagles went on a 10-1 run over the next two minutes to take the nine-point lead.
In the second quarter, Bethany rallied back to take the lead twice in the frame, which included 31-30 with 4:18 to go. UNW compiled a 9-0 run to end the half and led 39-31 at the break. The Eagles would lead by double digits for the third quarter and once again, the Vikings fought back to make it a nine-point game with 5:01 left in the fourth on a triple from senior Emily Skrien (Nicollet, Minn.). A 6-0 run over the next three minutes from Northwestern pushed the margin to 15, and BLC was unable to compile a further rally.
