MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team moved its winning streak to 13 as it hung on to win, 80-77, over North Central (9-11, 5-6) Wednesday.
The Vikings are 18-2 overall and 11-1 in UMAC games to remain in sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
Junior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) completed the three-point play which made the score 78-74 in favor of BLC with 0:26 to play. The Rams answered with a triple to slice the margin to one with nine seconds to go. The Vikings called for a timeout and advanced the ball to midcourt.
North Central chose not to foul until just before the buzzer and junior Abby Olson (Montevideo, Minn.) made both free throws to make it 80-77 with 0.3 left. The Rams called timeout and advanced the ball, but their last three-point attempt fell short of the basket.
Geistfeld finished with a double double (27 points and 13 rebounds). Olson tallied 23 points, while junior Kenlie Pytleski (East Chain, Minn.) and sophomore Laura Ellinghuysen (Winona, Minn.) each finished with 10.
The Vikings owned the team advantages in two of the three shooting categories, and rebounds (35-31).
