Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team (5-2 overall) beat No. 3/15 UW-Eau Claire (8-1) 63-61 Wednesday. The Blugolds were the highest ranked team the Vikings have ever defeated. UWEC was ranked No. 3 in the latest D3hoops.com poll and No. 15 in the WBCA poll.
This was also the third-straight win over a Top 25 opponent.
Senior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) made both of her free throws with seven seconds remaining to give BLC the 63-61 lead.
The Blugolds attempted one final play, but their shot attempt bounced off the rim as time expired to seal the win for Bethany.
Junior Taryn Christensen (South Sioux City, Neb.) had a career-high 19 points. Geistfeld recorded a double double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Laura Ellinghuysen (Winona, Minn.) completed those in double digits with 10 points.
The game was back and forth all night as UWEC led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter and 24-20 at halftime. The Vikings led 40-37 at the end of the third which led to a tight fourth frame.
