ST. PAUL – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team moved to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in UMAC games in the 100-75 loss at Northwestern (7-2, 3-1) Thursday.
The game was tied five times in the first half, which included at 31 all with 5:55 to play. The Eagles finished the frame on a 13-4 run to take the 44-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.
UNW picked up where it left off to start the second half, as it compiled an 11-1 run to push the lead to 18 in the first four minutes. Northwestern continued its offensive outpouring as it led by as many as 29 points twice down the stretch.
Junior Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Vikings with 18 points. Sophomore Justin Schrupp (Danube, Minn.) followed with 14 and classmate Hunter Nielsen (New Prague, Minn.) had 11 to round out those in double figures.
BLC owned the advantage in blocks, thanks to four from Nielsen alone.
The Vikings conclude their two-game road trip Saturday against Minnesota Morris at 3 p.m.
