MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team moved to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in UMAC games in the 81-69 win over UW-Superior (0-1, 0-1) Saturday afternoon.
Junior Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and sophomore Justin Schrupp (Danube, Minn.) each had 18 points on the day while classmate Drew Leistikow (St. Charles, Minn.) had a career-high 17 points to complete those in double digits. He was a perfect 6-6 from the field to add his name to the single game school record shooting percentage category.
The aforementioned trio also had six rebounds each to lead the team.
In the first half, the Yellowjackets led 12-9 with 9:19 to go. The Vikings used a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to regain the lead for good. BLC led 33-26 at halftime, and Schrupp had 11 points in the frame.
Bethany opened the second half 13-2 run in the first three minutes to push the margin to double digits, which it maintained for the rest of the contest. Smith had 12 of his total points and Leistikow scored 11 in that session.
The Vikings open a five-game road trip Monday against Northland at 5:30 p.m.
