MANKATO, Minn. -- The Bethany Lutheran softball team (6-10 overall) split its last two games of its own Vikings Classic Thursday. BLC won 3-1 against Gustavus, but fell 4-0 to Concordia.
Â
This marked the first win for the Vikings over the Gusties in the all-time series. In that game, Gustavus took the 1-0 lead in the second. This remained the score until the fourth when junior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) drove in sophomore Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) on her double to right field. Kinakin later scored the go-ahead run on senior Eden Ambrose's (Hugo, Minn.) groundout.
Â
Sophomore Emma Young (Mankato, Minn.) drove in pinch runner junior Hannah Dosch (Sioux Falls, SD) on her single to short to make it 3-1.
Junior Kassidy Cunningham (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) pitched the complete game and fanned three.
Â
The finale with the Cobbers was scoreless until the fifth inning. Concordia took the 1-0 lead on an RBI single and used a three-run sixth inning to extend it to 4-0.
Â
The Vikings had three hits in the contest, which included a triple from freshman Ana Christofferson (Mankato, Minn.).
Â
Bethany is off from competition until next Saturday, March 27 when it hosts UW-Stout in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
