Bethany Lutheran Earns First Win in Program History Over St. Scholastica

MANKATO, Minn.-- The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team (3-1 overall, 3-1 UMAC) earned the first win in program history over St. Scholastica (4-1, 4-1) in the 3-2 victory Saturday. The Saints owned the all-time series lead at 30-0-1 entering today's game.

This also marked the first loss of the season for St. Scholastica as it had previously won the first four games on the shortened year in shutout fashion.

The game was scoreless through the first half, as the Saints held the advantage in shots (11-6).

Sophomore Max Busch (Odenthal, Germany) connected on a pass from Benjamin Phillips (Kingston, Jamaica) to put the Vikings on the board at 53:40. Busch had the assists on the next two Bethany goals as senior Vincent Ayodi (Nairobi, Kenya) scored at 57:29 and freshman Thijs Middeldorp (Landgraaf, The Netherlands) at 62:55.

St. Scholastica tallied two consecutive goals at 65:25 and 71:11 to slice the margin to one.

Keeper Mason Steffen (Kiel, Wis.) stopped the next two shots he faced to seal the win.
