MANKATO, Minn. -- The Bethany Lutheran softball team (16-12 overall, 8-1 UMAC) swept UW-Superior (14-12, 7-7) , 7-6, and 11-3 in five innings Thursday.
The first game was tied sixth in the bottom of the seventh. Fittingly on Senior Day, senior Morgan Mashlan (Brandon, SD) hit a walk-off double to win the first game. Mashlan went 2-4 with two RBI. Senior Alyssa Kosta (Redding, Calif.) pitched the complete game and fanned four to earn the win.
In the finale, each team tallied a run in the first inning. The Vikings plated five in the second, which indluede a two-run single from Kosta and an RBI single from freshman Jenna Wahl (Holmen, Wis.). BLC batted around in the third and scored four runs.
Sophomore Katelyn Halbach (Osage, Iowa) drove in sophomore Liz Milam (Le Sueur, Minn.) on her single to right in the fourth to make it 11-1.
The 'Jackets added two in the top of the fifth, and had runners on second and third with two outs. The next batter hit a dribbler to first which junior Zoe Kinakin (Victoria, British Columbia) fielded to end a further rally.
Halbach, Kosta, Milam, and Wahl all had two hits.
Bethany returns to the field tomorrow for a twinbill against No. 17 St. Scholastica at 3:30 p.m.
