Bethany Lutheran Advances in UMAC Tournament

Box Score ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (16-14 overall) defeated UW-Superior (16-21) 13-1 in seven innings Friday to advance in the UMAC Tournament.

Freshman Ben Hopper (North Mankato, Minn.) put the Vikings on the board with his two-run single in the second. BLC plated another on a bases loaded hit by pitch.

In the third, junior Kaylan Legred (Blue Earth, Minn.) tripled in classmate Carter Wendlandt (Minneapolis), and then scored on the overthrow which made it 5-0.

Junior Ross Beumer (Northfield, Minn.) added to the margin with his three-run homer to push it to 8-0.

In the next frame, senior Jake LaBerge (Round Rock, Texas) had a two-run double and Legred drove in freshman Liam Peterson (Port Orchard, Wash.) to make it 11-0.

In the sixth, senior Tommy Gannon (Janesville, Minn.) launched one over the tall fence in left field which made the score 13-0.

The YellowJackets tallied one in the seventh.

The two roundtrippers tied a single game high for BLC in the conference tournament.

Freshman Matt Wood (West Hills, Calif.) pitched the complete game and had a career-high eight strikeouts.

The Vikings will return to competition tomorrow at 1 p.m. They will face the loser of tonight's 7 p.m. contest between host-Northwestern and St. Scholastica.
