SUPERIOR, Wis.— In the first overtime game of the season, junior Max Busch (Odenthal, Germany) netted the game-winner to seal the 2-1 victory for Bethany Lutheran (2-4-0 overall, 2-0 UMAC) over preseason favorite UW-Superior (2-5, 2-1) Friday afternoon. Classmate Liam Peterson (Port Orchard, Wash.) launched a free kick from 50-yards out just in front of the goal and Busch finished the pass.
This marked the second win for BLC in the all-time series and first for the program since 2007.
The YellowJackets got on the board at 10:20 into the game as Protus Babaya headed a pass from Blake Perry into the right side of the goal.
This remained the score through halftime.
Busch bent his shot around a diving goalie at 72:48 to even it one all. Just two minutes into the extra session, he capitalized on Peterson's free kick.
