Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vikings Push Win Streak to Four with 1-0 Win Over LumberJills

ASHLAND, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team pushed its win streak to four on Friday afternoon when they defeated Northland 1-0. With the win the Vikings move to 8-4-1 overall and 7-2 in the UMAC, while Northland goes to 2-8-3 overall and 1-5-3 in the conference.

"This game felt like a little bit of déjà vu from MLC on Tuesday," said Head Coach Emma Morris. "We struggled to get good opportunities in the finall third even with a decent amount of possession. However, we're once again proud of the girls for bringing it in the second half  and doing a much better job of connecting passes, using the width, and getting in behind the defense. We were unlucky not to go away with more than the one goal. Special shout out to Asia who has been putting in some great set pieces, and to Olaitz for getting on the end of them even when being pressured by multiple players."

Unlike their first match against the LumberJills in which they scored two first half goals, the Viking offense couldn't muster a goal in the first 45 minutes of this one. Bethany was in control of the match though, as they outshot the home team 12-3 in the first half.

The second half was déjà vu once again though, as Olaitz Azkue took a pass from Asia Jota and found the back of the net less than seven minutes into the frame for what became the game-winner. This marks the third match this season that Azkue has netted the game-winner within the first seven minutes of the second half, with all three coming courtesy of a Jota assist. The Vikings dominated possession in the second half and were able to withstand a few late pushes from Northland to take the victory.

Brooke Wolanin got the win in net, making three saves in the shutout.

Bethany will be back at it tomorrow when they take on conference UW-Superior at 4:30 p.m.
