Northland, UW-Superior Come to Town for Key Matchups

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team will be hosting a pair of conference matches this weekend as it takes on Northland and UW-Superior. The Vikings (5-14, 3-5 UMAC) host Northland (8-9, 3-5 UMAC) at 7 p.m. Friday before UW-Superior (11-9, 7-1 UMAC) will enter North Gym for a Saturday matchup at 1 p.m. Saturday's contest will also double as the teams annual Dig Pink night, in which there will be walking tacos available prior to the contest as well as other items with all donations going to Andreas Cancer Center that is apart of Mayo in Mankato. 

Bethany Lutheran 
The Vikings enter the matchup coming off a 3-0 sweep of Martin Luther on Tuesday night. Rilee Hohbein has had a strong month of October for Bethany, notching 28 kills while committing 13 errors on 82 attacks for a hitting percentage of .182. Alexis Morsching has also been strong the past matches, totaling 32 kills over her last four matches. Paloma Garcia de Fuentes and Esther Peeters have split setting duties recently, with both posting double-digit assists twice in the past four contests. Maddi Wendland has served as the teams libero this season, and has posted at least 15 digs in nine of the teams matches on the year. 

Northland 
The LumberJills enter the matchup following a 3-0 loss to UW-Superior on Tuesday. Through 17 matches Larissa Fossum leads the Jills with 190 kills and also boasts 203 digs. Alexa Zadra has led the back row with 273 digs while Rachel Callow is the teams primary setter with 424 on the season.

The Series vs. Northland
Friday's contest will mark the 38th all-time meeting between the teams with Bethany currently holding a 29-8 edge. Northland however, has won two of the last three contests.

UW-Superior
Prior to the win over Northland last week, the Yellowjackets suffered their only conference loss to Northwestern last Saturday. Alexie Pryd leads the team thus far with 239 kills through 20 matches, while Maiana Stark has 193. The team has used a few setters this season, with Colleen Claude and Cassy Teff leading the charge with 280 and 258 set assists, respectively. Jenna Anderson anchors the back row as the teams libero as she has 332 digs. 

The Series vs. UW-Superior
Saturday's contest will mark the 17th all-time matchup between the teams with UWS holding a 14-2 edge. The Yellowjackets are on a 10-match win streak with Bethany's most recent win coming on Oct. 22, 2016.
