Vikings Fall to No. 5 Eagles

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team traveled to No. 5 Northwestern on Friday night and fell by a score of 3-0. With the result the Vikings fall to 7-17 overall and 5-8 in the UMAC while the Eagles move to 27-2 overall and 13-0 in the conference.

After the Vikings jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, Northwestern turned the set around and took a decisive 25-12 win. The Eagles posted 18 kills to zero attacks in the first set for a .563 attack percentage. 

The second set played much closer, as the teams traded points early in the set. With the two teams tied at 14, Northwestern would then go 11 of the last 15 points for a 25-18 win.

In the final set, the Eagles jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the early going. Facing an uphill battle, the Vikings would fight back as they scored 14 of the next 22 to cut the UNW lead to 24-22. An Eagle kill however would end the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

Lexiss Trygg led the Viking attack in this one with six kills while Maddie Meyer added five. Esther Peeters dished out 14 assists in the match while Callista Weber had a team-best eight digs. 

Bethany will be back in action tomorrow when they take on North Central for a 1 p.m. contest.
