Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team posted a convincing 5-0 win over Minnesota Morris on Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Vikings move to 5-4-1 overall and 4-2 in the UMAC while the Cougars fall to 2-7-2 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play.
The Vikings got the scoring started early in this one, when Ashley Casper took a shot on net that resulted in a Morris handball. Juana Quevedo would the convert the penalty kick goal to give Bethany an early 1-0 lead. Casper would be rewarded for gaining the penalty kick shortly after, notching her first goal of the season in the 17th minute off a great pass from Olaitz Azkue. Just before the half ended, the Vikings got one more goal as a corner kick by Asia Jota bounced once before Googie Mueller was able to net her first score of the year to give the Vikings a 3-0 halftime lead.Â
Morris had a few good runs to start the second half and they seemed to be fighting back into it until an errant clearance resulted in Casper with a free look from just outside the box that she would put by the Cougar keeper for her second goal of the match. The Vikings would get one more goal in the 78th minute as Noa Txintxurreta and Quevedo would play the ball back and forth before they found Jota would took a few dribbles and struck one into the left side of the net to give Bethany their final goal of the match.
Brooke Wolanin once again had a solid outing in net for the Vikings, notching seven saves in the shutout effort.Â
Bethany will be back in action Saturday when they host Crown in a 2 p.m. contest.Â
