MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany women's soccer team hosted Crown on Saturday and took a 4-1 victory. With the win the Vikings move to 6-4-1 overall and 5-2 in the UMAC while the Polars fall to 5-5-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the conference.
It was Olaitz Azkue who got the scoring started in the seventh minute when she took a cross from Elena Luján Rubio and punched it home with her right foot to give the Vikings an early 1-0 lead. Luján Rubio then got a goal herself in the 28th minute after a great pass from Mia Saulter that left Rubio 1-on-1 with the keeper for a goal.
Early in the second half the Vikings kept the scoring going, as Mia Johnson was the beneficiary of a fleury of shots on net and was able to take a rebound and send it past the defense for her second goal of the season. After a Crown penalty kick goal less than two minutes after Johnson's score, the Polars started to fight back and gain solid possession. In the 69th minute, Johnson would play a perfect ball through the defense to Saulter who was 1-on-1 with the goalie to make it 4-1. Stout defense would close out the game for the Vikings as they took home the win.
Brooke Wolanin was strong in net, allowing just one goal on a penalty kick while making seven saves.
Bethany is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Martin Luther for a 3:30 p.m. match.
