MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran womens basketball team fell to DePauw on Friday at Wisconsin Lutheran College by a score of 73-42. With the loss the Vikings fall to 0-2, while the Tigers who received votes in the latests D3hoops.com poll move to 1-0.
The Tigers opened the game strong, getting out of the gates 8-2 in the early going. Bethany was able to find their scoring touch, but DePauw would match their baskets as they held a 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Bethany would open the second quarter scoring five of the first seven points to cut the lead thanks to a pair of Alexis Cloyd baskets before the Tigers started to push their lead. Trailing by five with 5:20 remaining in the half, DePauw would close the half on an 8-2 run to lead 31-20 at the half.
The third quarter proved to be the difference for the Tigers, as they shot 8-of-18 while holding the Vikings to 3-of-12 shooting to outscore them 22-8 and take a 53-28 lead. DePauw outscored Bethany in the final quarter 20-14 to take home a 73-42 victory.
Cloyd led the Vikings in this one as she scored 14 points while Annika Younge added five points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
Bethany is back at it again tomorrow when they take on Calvin College at 1 p.m. at the Wisconsin Lutheran Tournament.
