Box Score ROSEVILLE, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team finished its season on Wednesday night as they dropped a match to No. 5 Northwestern 3-0. The Vikings end the season at 8-18 and a fourth place finish in the UMAC.
After the Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first set, the Vikings started to settle in as each team scored nine of the next 18 points to bring the score to 17-9. Northwestern however would roll late in the set, scoring the final eight points of the set as they took a 25-9 victory.Â
In the second, the teams played even early on with Northwestern getting out to an 11-9 lead. They would once again start to fire on all cylinders as their attack hit its stride and they took 14 of the last 18 points en rout to a 25-13 victory.Â
The final set was much of the same as the second, as Bethany was able to stay in it trailing just 9-8 in the early going. The Eagles however would once again start to find their groove late as they closed the set out on a 16-6 run to take the match 3-0.Â
Sarah Strom had a strong match for Bethany, posting seven kills to go along with six digs. Setting duties were split evenly with Paloma Garcia de Fuentes and Esther Peeters each notching eight assists, while Maddi Wendland posted a team-best nine digs in the back row.Â
