Kottke Leads Offensive Outburst in Win Over Central

MANKATO, Minn. - Sara Kottke had 25 and 10 rebounds on Saturday as the Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team took a decisive win 81-57 over Central. With the win the Vikings move to 3-7 overall while the Dutch fall to 3-8.

Central would come out of the gates strong, as they took a 6-2 lead over Bethany to start the contest. Their lead wouldn't last long though, as Lexiss Trygg got a few buckets late in the first quarter and gave the Vikings a 14-13 lead which they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the contest. A Skylar Cotten three ended the first quarter as Bethany would hold a 19-15 lead after one quarter of play. The second frame would be where the Vikings started to distance themselves, as they held Central to just nine points in the quarter and scored 18 of their own to take a 37-24 lead into the half.

Coming out of the half Bethany continued to pour it on, as Kottke found her groove as she hit three triples in the quarter and the Vikings scored 25 points thanks to 5-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc in the third. Bethany closed the frame by making their final three shot attempts with Ashley Schindele hitting a three with time winding down to push them to a 22 point leading heading into the final quarter. In the fourth, the Vikings would continue to press their advantage as they outscored the Dutch 19-17 to take home the victory.

Trygg supplemented Kottke's 25-point performance with 17 points of her own off the bench, while Schindele tallied 10 points. Ashanti Boykin played a solid game as well for the Vikings, tallying six points on 3-of-3 shooting to go along with six assists, four rebounds, and a pair of steals.

Bethany is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Coe College for a 3 p.m. contest.
