Softball Moves Winning Streak to Four

CLERMONT, Fla.—The Bethany Lutheran softball team (8-4 overall) won both games Wednesday to move its winning streak to four.

The Vikings defeated Capital 14-6 in five innings and beat Penn State-Altoona 5-3.

Capital was the first team on the board with three runs in the second. BLC battled back to reclaim the lead with six runs in the third, thanks in part to a three-run double from freshman Olivia Fritz (Le Sueur, Minn.). Bethany used a five-run fourth inning to continue to extend its lead. Senior Eden Ambrose (Hugo, Minn.) drove in freshman Kaija Mork (Sioux Falls, SD) to seal the run-rule victory in the fifth.

Ambrose was a perfect 4-4 from the plate with three runs and three RBIs. Junior Madisen Borek (Redding, Calif.) also went a perfect 3-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Mork was 3-4 with three runs.

In the last game of the day, the Vikings jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second, and the Lions plated a run in the bottom of the frame. An error in the third gave BLC the 4-1 lead and sophomore Liz Milam (Le Sueur, Minn.) drove in Ambrose for the final run of the game.

Penn State-Altoona compiled a two-run rally in the seventh and had runners on first and second with two outs. The next batter drew a walk to load the bases. The next batter flew out to leftfield to halt a further rally.

Ambrose went 3-4 with two runs, and Milam was 2-3.

Bethany returns to the field tomorrow for its final games of the trip, with the first one against Bluffton at 10:45 a.m. (ET).
