SUPERIOR, Wis.-- The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (8-10 overall, 4-3 UMAC) won the final game of the weekend series against UW-Superior (7-14, 3-3) 8-6 in 11 innings Sunday. This was the second extra inning game of the season.

The Vikings led 6-0 after their first at-bats. UWS tallied one run in the first, three in the second, one in the fourth and fifth innings to knot the game at six all.

BLC was retired in order in the top of the ninth. The 'Jackets hit a leadoff single, the next batter hit into a double play, and the next batter struck out swinging to send the game to extra innings.

In the 10
th, Bethany had a runner on third with two outs, but was unable to drive him in. UWS was retired in order in the bottom of the frame to send it to the 11
th.

Junior Vaughn Pouncy (St. Paul) hit a two-run single to center field to reclaim the lead for the Vikings at 8-6. Once again, the 'Jackets were sent down in order to seal the win.

Pouncy went 3-6 with two RBIs. Senior Conor Merton (Perth, Australia) pitched a career-high 9.2 innings and fanned a career-best seven.

BLC returns to the field Wednesday when it hosts Martin Luther at 3 p.m. in a single nine-inning game.
