MANKATO, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran baseball team (9-11 overall, 5-4 UMAC) fell to first place Northwestern (12-7, 7-2) 10-0 in eight innings Friday afternoon.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Eagles plated two on an RBI triple and an RBI double. A three-run homer in the fifth and a grand slam in the sixth made it 9-0.
UNW tallied its final run of the day in the eighth on an RBI double to deep left field.
In his first at-bat, junior Liam Peterson (Port Orchard, Wash.) broke up the no-hitter with his double to right field. He advanced to third, but was left stranded as the next two batters were retired.
No Viking baserunner would advance past second for the duration of the contest.
Peterson finished 3-4 and freshman Aidan Russell (Gilbert, Ariz.) joined him with an extra base hit with his double in the fifth.
The two teams return to the field tomorrow for the doubleheader in the series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
