Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Takes Down Hamline 2-1

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team traveled to Hamline Saturday and after allowing the first goal of the match, came back to take a 2-1 victory. The victory snapped a 37-game losing streak that the Vikings had endured to MIAC foes, and marks the first win on record against a MIAC team since 2004. With the win, the Vikings move to 2-0 overall.

"Really good victory for us after it started with them getting an own goal," said Head Coach Derick Lyngholm. "I'm really proud of how we came from behind for the second straight game to take a victory. Our depth really proved to be crucial again. Excited to see Cam [Brookfield] get a goal and looking to come back strong against Gustavus on Wednesday."

The Vikings fell behind early after a cross deflected off a Bethany defender and into the net. They were quick to respond though, after a ball being played up in the air was headed by Antonio Lima in front of the net and Liam Peterson skied above the defense and headed one into the upper right hand corner. The Vikings would continue to control much of the possession in the first half, outshooting Hamline 9-3 in the frame but the teams entered the break tied at one.

After halftime, Bethany continued to hold possession and it paid off midway through the half. Peterson found Jamie Smith who was able to get it to Cameron Brookfield in the middle and Brookfield used his right foot to boot one into the bottom left corner in what turned out to the be the game winner.

Francisco Vilarinho got the start in net for the Vikings and recorded the win to bring his record to 1-0-0 on the year.
