MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team set a pair of new single game records on Tuesday in a 116-63 win over Finlandia. They dished out 34 assists in the contest to break the previous record of 32, while they made 48 field goals which broke the previous record of 45. With the win the Vikings move to 11-2 overall while the Lions fall to 2-12.
Bethany rolled right from the start in this one, getting out to a 37-10 lead midway through the first half. They outscored the lions 26-14 in the last 10 minutes to hold a 63-24 lead heading into the break. The Vikings shot 26-of-38 in the first 20 minutes for a percentage of 68.4, with Justin Schrupp notching 18 first half points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and a percent 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. The second half was much of the same with Bethany shooting 22-of-39 (56.4 percent) in the final 20 minutes to roll to victory.
The Vikings saw 16 different players make a field goal in the contest with Schrupp leading the team with 24 points. Jax Madson led the assist effort with seven, while Drew Sagedahl dished out six. Bethany also outrebounded Finlandia 46-25 in the contest, but no Viking grabbed more than four.
Bethany will be back in action Saturday when they host Martin Luther College at 3 p.m.
