Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team hosted the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday afternoon and lost the contest by a score of 2-1. With the loss the Vikings fall to 9-4-1 overall and 8-2 in the UMAC while the Yellowjackets move to 9-5-1 overall and 9-2 in conference play.
It didn't take long for the scoring to commence in this one, as the Yellowjackets took a corner kick in the opening minute and the ball hooked straight into the net for the early 1-0 lead. After the first minute tally, the teams played fairly even the remainder of the half with the Vikings outshooting UWS 4-1.
With a renewed energy in the second half, Bethany got a handful of chances early and would convert on a corner in the 61st minute. It came off an
Elena Luján Rubio corner kick that was misplayed by the Yellowjacket keeper and knocked in by
Mia Saulter for a tie game.
Unfortunately for the Vikings though, Superior forward Niya Wilson would get free just a minute later and get an open look on net that she slotted into the upper right corner to re-take the lead at 2-1.
Bethany would get a few chances late that they wouldn't convert, with one being an
Asia Jota shot from well outside the box that just missed high in the 88th minute as UWS escaped with the victory.
The Vikings will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Northwestern for a 4:30 p.m. start.
