Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team hosted Northland on Saturday afternoon and claimed a 6-1 win. With the result the Vikings move to 10-5-1 overall and 9-3-0 in the UMAC while the LumberJills fall to 2-11-2 overall and 1-9-2 in the conference.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the contest in the 12th minute as
Mia Saulter took a shot that was saved but
Mia Johnson was there for the rebound and punched it in with her left foot for the 1-0 Vikings lead.
Northland would get their best chance of the half in the 16th minute and convert, as they knocked a header in off a corner kick to even the game at one apiece.
Bethany would answer back just over 10 minutes later, as they struck for two goals in a five minute span. First it was
Ashley Casper who split the defense off a pass from
Olaitz Azkue Muguruza for a goal before
Asia Jota found
Elena Luján Rubio for a tally to make the score 3-1 headed into the half.
After the break the Vikings were even more prolific on the attack as they would use great combination play with Johnson finding Azkue who dished to Lujan Rubio for another goal just two minutes into the second.
Johnson would then get her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute thanks to an assist from Jota before Saulter would score the games final goal in the 60th minute with assists going to
Riley Ping and Johnson.
Ema Cortes Carvalho got the start in net and made two saves in the win.
Bethany will next be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Crown for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
