SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team Saturday traveled to UW-Superior for their final match of the season and fell by a score of 3-0. With the loss the Vikings finish the season 8-18 overall and 5-9 in the UMAC while the Yellowjackets move to 18-10 overall and 10-4 in the conference and will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.
UW-Superior set the tone in the first frame of this one, dominating from start to finish as they claimed a 25-6 win.
In the second, Bethany would bounce back as they got out to a 15-6 lead thanks in part to four kills from
Kate Maag. UWS would respond with eight of the next 10 points before the Vikings would get two straight to retake a five point lead. The Yellowjackets then scored eight of the next 10 once again as they would take a 22-21 edge late. The two teams would work their way to a 25-25 tie before a UWS attack error would give the Vikings set point. Unfortunately for Bethany, the home team would rattle off three straight kills to take the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The final set started even between the teams until a 5-0 run from the Vikings put them up 14-11 midway through. Eight straight points from the Yellowjackets though would put them up 19-14 and Bethany couldn't fight back in as UWS took a 25-18 set win to claim the match.
Maag led the Vikings in the match with nine kills, while
Lexiss Trygg finished with seven.
Paloma Garcia De Fuentes dished out 19 assists to lead the team while also leading the back row with 12 digs. Trygg and
Callista Weber also achieved double digit digs as they managed 10 apiece.
