Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team Friday night took on UW-Eau Claire and fell by a score of 91-60. With the loss the Vikings fall to 0-6 while the Blugolds move to 3-3.
UWEC was quick out of the gates in this one, as the home team opened the game on a 14-3 run through the first five minutes. The Vikings would answer with five straight points before Eau Claire would once again respond with eight consecutive points of their own. With Bethany trailing 22-8, the two teams would each tally a basket inside with the Blugolds adding a free throw before an
Aubrea Kor three ended the frame and UWEC held a 25-13 lead after one.
Both teams would notch a handful of baskets in the opening minutes of the second, with the home team tallying seven straight in the middle of the quarter to take a 41-20 advantage.
Juliana Ewald would then score five straight for the Vikings before the Blugolds would find their stride again, ending the frame on a 9-2 run to take a 50-27 lead into the half.
UWEC continued their surge in the third quarter, kicking things off on a 10-3 run to take a 60-30 lead. After the slow start for the Vikings in the quarter, they found their groove in the closing minutes of the frame outscoring the Blugolds 16-12 for the remainder of the quarter to trail 72-46 headed to the fourth.
In the fourth both teams struggled to get things going offensively in the early minutes. Eau Claire would push their lead to 89-53 with just over two minutes to play and eventually claim the 91-60 win.
Ewald and
Lexiss Trygg each paced the Vikings with 13 points, with Trygg adding a team-best five rebounds. Kor also had a solid day with 10 points on 50 percent shooting, while Kaylee Hunter added nine points thanks to a trio of three pointers.
The Vikings will next be in action on Tuesday when they host Wartburg at 7:30 p.m.
