RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team Thursday night traveled to UW-River Falls and fell to the Falcons by a score of 71-39. With the loss the Vikings fall to 1-9 while UWRF moves to 6-1.
River Falls would jump out to an 8-0 lead in this one and it wasn't until 5:18 into the game that the Vikings would get on the board thanks to free throws from Gianna Klarenbeek. She would score four more for the Vikings in the next few minutes to bring the score to 11-5 before the Falcons scored six of the last eight to lead 17-7 after one.Â
The Vikings were haunted by turnovers in the second quarter, committing seven in the frame with River Falls using those mistakes to push the pace and outscore the visitors 25-8 in the frame.Â
Over the final two quarters, UW-River Falls outscored the Vikings 29-24 to take the win. The Vikings would hold the Falcons to just 33.3 percent shooting in the final two quarters and a 1-of-8 clip from beyond the arc. Although Bethany picked it up from the field in the second half, they struggled from the free throw line, going 3-of-10.
Ashanti Boykin and Gianna Klarenbeek each scored seven points to lead the Vikings with Klarenbeek adding five rebounds.Â
