TUCSON, Ariz. - The Bethany Lutheran baseball team continued its trip in Tucson, Ariz. on Tuesday and were shutout in a 4-0 loss to Dakota Wesleyan. With the loss the Vikings fall to 1-4 overall.
After a scoreless top of the first for Bethany, Dakota Wesleyan would use four base hits and a hit by pitch to scratch three runs across and take the early lead. The Vikings would get a pair of base hits to start the second but had a runner thrown out trying to take an extra base before the Tigers would strand a runner at third base. to keep Bethany scoreless.
The Vikings were stymied for the final seven innings, as they mustered just one hit and DWU took a 4-0 shutout victory.
Nate Gregersen got the start on the mound and allowed three runs in his three innings of work, striking out two. Trent Herrboldt came on in relief and three 4 1/3 innings, striking out two and allowing just one earned run, while Conner Side threw the final two outs and got one strikeout and allowed no base runners.
Aidan Russell posted two hits in the game to lead the Vikings
Bethany will be back in action on Thursday when they play Gustavus Adolphus at 12 p.m. and Allegheny at 3:30 p.m.
