TUCSON, Ariz. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team continued its season in Tucson this week and dropped a pair of contests to open the trip. The Vikings, now 3-7, fell to College of Saint Mary 3-2 before dropping a contest to Olivet Nazarene 15-0.
College of Saint Mary 3 - 2 Bethany
The Vikings opened their trip on a high note, with Bailey Erlandson and Katelyn Halbach leading off the trip with a walk and a hit, respectively. Kaija Mork then ripped a double to score both runners and give Bethany a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half, an error would haunt the Vikings as the Flames would get one back to cut the lead in half. In the bottom of the second inning, another error would hurt Bethany as CSM would scratch another run across to tie the game at two.
After a few scoreless innings between the teams, the Flames would scratch one more run out after a Bethany error to take the lead heading to the seventh. In the last frame for the Vikings, Aliya Kehler kicked off the inning with a double but they couldn't push the run to the plate and suffered the loss.
Kayle Senne took the loss on the mound, pitching all seven innings and allowing no earned runs, while striking out seven. Mork, Halbach, and Ana Christofferson all had two hits in the game as Bethany outhit CSM 7-6.
Olivet Nazarene 15 - 0 Bethany
The Tiger bats came alive in the first inning of this one, as they scratched out eight runs on eight hits. Bethany could just never get anything going in this one as they were held to just two hits in the contest that came from Emily Doyle and Haley Stockman. ONU added three more runs in the second inning and four in the fourth as they took the 15-0 win.
The Vikings will be back at it tomorrow morning when they take on RPI at 9 a.m. for a doubleheader.
