Box Score STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer took care of business to open the season as they defeated Buena Vista 3-0 in Storm Lake, Iowa on Friday night.
"It's always good to get that first win under your belt," said Head Coach Derick Lyngholm. We had a lot of good chances that we didn't put home and we need to improve upon that. But it'll be a happy bus ride home and we look like we'll be healthy for our game against Saint Mary's next week."
There wasn't a shot recorded on net through the first seven minutes of this contest, but
Ben Klausen made sure to make the first one count. After a scramble in front of the net, the ball found the foot of
Danny Pilot who passed it across the front of the net to Klausen for a tap in goal that put Bethany up 1-0.
Buena Vista would put their only shot on net in the contest in the 10
th minute, but
Nick Lundberg was there to make the save. The teams then played scoreless for the remainder of the first half with neither team mustering a ton of golden opportunities.
The second half began and the Vikings started to find more shots, but couldn't manage many great looks in the early going. That all changed in the 73
nd minute when
Gijs van Eldik was able to tap a pass to
Lorenzo Falleti who juggled the ball once before playing the second touch on net and firing it past the BVU keeper for a 2-0 lead.
Things seemed to be heading towards a 2-0 Bethany win until the Vikings made a run in the 87
th minute with
Alejandro Cabezas finding
Daniel Almeida on a through ball with Almeida punching it past the keeper to give BLC the 3-0 victory.
Lundberg got the win in net making just the one save in the contest.
