Concordia 3 – 0 Bethany Lutheran
The Cobbers set the tone in the first match of the night, jumping out to a 13-5 lead early thanks to a barrage of kills. Concordia would then keep the Vikings at bay for the rest of the set, eventually claiming the first 25-17.
Bethany was the team to get out to an early lead in the second, but a 5-1 run gave them a 12-10 lead midway through the set. It was then the Vikings who went on a 5-1 run to take the lead back, before the two teams would start to play point-for-point down the stretch. After Bethany had a 20-19 lead, Concordia would find their stride once again, rattling off six of the last seven points for the set win.
The Vikings would come out of the gates strong in the third, pushing their way to a 14-8 lead midway through the set. They would extend that lead all the way to 21-14 before the Cobbers came storming back, scoring eight of the next nine points to even the set at 22-22. Bethany would score two straight to push things to set point, before four straight kills from the Cobbers swung the tide and gave them the set and match win.
Kate Maag led Bethany in the match with 10 kills, whileÂ
Lexiss Trygg had nine.
Paloma Garcia De Fuentes dished out a team-high 27 assists, while Trygg also led the back row with 11 digs. Â

In the second match of the night, the Vikings were trying to evade their 23
rd straight loss to the Saints and they got out of the gates early, eventually pushing out to a 16-8 lead off a Garcia de Fuentes service ace.
The Saints would battle back to cut the deficit to 17-15, but the service of
Maddi Wendland would key a 7-0 run that she finished off with three straight aces to push the lead to 24-15. CSS would get one point back but a Maag kill would finish the set.
Similarly to the first set, the Vikings would once again get out to a big lead as they gained a 10-5 edge to begin the second. CSS would fight back to eventually even things at 14, before Bethany would slowly retake the lead at 20-17 after a kill from
Riley Sammon. The teams then started trading points as the set wound down, with a kill from
Femke Peters closing the door as the Vikings claimed it 25-22.
The third set was the first that leaned in the Saints fashion early. They would slowly build their lead to 15-11 before Bethany went on a 6-1 run to take a 17-16 lead. CSS would answer with three before the service of Trygg put Bethany on a 6-0 run and pushed the lead to 23-19. Three straight points from St. Scholastica would cut the lead to just one, but a kill by
Esther Peeters and a Saint attack error would end the match.
Sammon led the Vikings in the second match with nine kills, while Maag added eight. Garcia de Fuentes had 26 set assists in the match, while Wendland had 26 digs.
The Vikings will play one more match tomorrow when they take on Saint Mary's at 3 p.m.Â
