ASHLAND, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team took on Northland Saturday morning, and defeated the LumberJills 3-0 in straight sets. With the win the Vikings move to 9-12 overall and 2-5 in the UMAC while the Jills fall to 0-16 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
The first set would get out to a 9-9 start before Bethany would score 12 of the next 13 points on the services of
Avery Carlson and
Kylie Smidt to get up 21-10. From there the Vikings would go on to close out set one 25-14.
Bethany would come out strong in the second set getting out to a 10-5 lead early before the home team would score four straight to cut the deficit to one. From that point forward, the Vikings would start to run away with it as they would outscore Northland 15-4 to end the set and take the 25-13 win.
The Vikings would leave nothing to chance in the third, as they would get out to a 10-1 lead early once again using the service of Smidt. Northland would cut the deficit to five points but Bethany would run away with it late to claim set three 25-13 and the match 3-0.
The Vikings were led by
Riley Sammon on offense as she tallied 10 kills while
Maddie Meyer and
Lilly Mehrkens had nine.
Abby Distad dished out a team-best 26 assists in the contest, while Smidt had a team-best 11 digs and four service aces.
Bethany will next be in action on Tuesday when they head to Martin Luther for a 7 p.m. contest.
