Men's Soccer Concludes Regular Season with 5-1 Win Over Minnesota Morris

MORRIS, Minn. - Four unanswered goals from the Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team would lift them to a 5-1 win over Minnesota Morris on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Vikings improve to 12-6-2 overall and 11-2-1 in the UMAC while the Cougars fall to 5-15-0 overall and 5-9-0 in the conference.

Guilherme Gancho would open the scoring just six minutes in, as Raheem Graham would find Diogo Cavalcanti open on the left side with the latter passing in front of the goalie to an open Gancho for the opening goal.

In the 27th minute Morris would respond, as they would intercept a Vikings pass and play a through ball through the defense with their forward knocking it into the left side of the net to even the score.

Daniel Almeida broke the tie just four minutes later, as a Viking cross would be stopped in front of the net by the Cougars but the rebound would find its way to Almeida where he was waiting for a tap-in goal to make it 2-1.

Bethany would add one more to their tally late in the half, as Ben Klausen would toss to Oscar Peraza on a throw in with Peraza playing a cross into the box and Gancho heading it home for this second goal of the half.

Not to be outdone Almeida would then get his second goal of the contest in similar fashion in the second half, as Cavalcanti would take a corner in the 73rd minute and play a low cross in that Almeida would head home for the 4-1 lead.

Gijs van Eldik would then add on one last goal in the 86th minute, as he would take a free kick from just outside the box and hook it around the Morris defenders and into the right side of the net for the 5-1 decision.

Nick Lundberg got the win in net, making two saves while allowing one goal in the contest.

Bethany will now be back in action on Wednesday, November 6th when they host Crown for a UMAC semifinal matchup at 4:30 p.m.
